How To Light An Outdoor Fire Pit To Reduce Smoke

How To Light An Outdoor Fire Pit To Reduce Smoke

Sitting around a campfire can be one of the most relaxing and enjoyable outdoor activities, but no one likes being chased away by a smoky fire. What's the best way to start a fire in a fire pit to produce minimal smoke? Here are a few tips to help you to take in the moment, not the smoke.   1. Dry Wood Make sure the wood you use is completely dry. Wood that has too much moisture will not burn effectively. It does not properly combust, meaning It doesn’t produce as much heat, and therefore creates more smoke. 2. Get It Hot Faster Use a Fire Starter or one of the TIKI® Brand Wood Packs to help get your fire burning hotter, faster. This means less smoke, more heat and a better experience overall. 3. Stick to Wood Putting material other than wood in a fire can lead to a variety of issues, one of which being smoke. Make sure to only burn wood or wood pellets, in your fire pit to get the optimal experience. The TIKI® Brand Fire Pit comes with a Wood Pack which provides the ideal low smoke experience.     Here is a quick video showing how to light the TIKI® Brand Wood Pack for a low smoke fire!

How Hot Does A Fire Pit Get?

How Hot Does A Fire Pit Get?

Entertaining outside is now a year-long activity thanks to smokeless fire pit improvements. Making s'mores in the summer or staying warm on a cool night, your outdoor fire pit's temperature plays an important role. But how hot can a fire pit get and what impacts the temperature?  Several factors contribute to a fire pit's heat: style, size, and fuel.    Style Wood burning fire pits are available in a variety of styles, sizes and materials. These materials ultimately determine how hot the fire itself gets.   People use stone or brick for built-in pits and metal for standalone options. Standalone options can reach temperatures between 600 and 1,000 degrees. Higher quality materials and the design of the fire pit help disperse that heat correctly.    Size Bigger pits generally produce more heat. Why? Because you can add more fuel and get more oxygen to them, meaning they will burn hotter. Large or small, TIKI® Brand has a smokeless fire pits to fit any outdoor space.     Fuel The type of fuel you use for your fire will determine the fire's temperature.   Wood is a popular choice for its natural and rustic feel. It not only provides warmth but creates a cozy ambiance with crackling sounds and mesmerizing flames.   If you prefer a cleaner and more convenient option, propane can be a great alternative. Propane fire pits are easy to use and require minimal effort to ignite and control the flame. They offer the advantage of adjustable heat settings, allowing you to customize the temperature according to your preference. Additionally, propane fires produce less smoke and ash, making them a cleaner option for your outdoor space.    For those seeking a hassle-free, instant fire-starting experience, there are TIKI® Brand Wood Packs. These packs provide a quick and easy way to ignite your fire pit without the need for additional fuel or kindling. Simply place a pack in your fire pit, light it up, and enjoy a hassle-free fire experience.   Ultimately, the fuel choice you select depends on your personal preference and the requirements of your outdoor space. Consider factors such as convenience, cleanliness, and the desired temperature range when making your decision. Regardless of fuel type, always prioritize safety and ensure you follow the instructions for proper usage and maintenance.  To get the desired heat, use quality materials, the right size, and appropriate fuel. Then create a cozy and warm atmosphere for gatherings and simply enjoy the mesmerizing flames.

What Fire Pit is Right For Me?

What Fire Pit is Right For Me?

When working on creating the backyard of your dreams, you cannot forget about the focal point of your yard. A fire pit lets your guests gather and relax; find your perfect size and shape below. Fire pits are not one-size-fits-all. Every outdoor living space is unique, and your pit should complement it. Whether you have an expansive yard or urban environment, TIKI® Brand offers a fire pit perfect for you.  For the best possible experience think about comfort, convenience, and safety. When determining which pit works best for you, consider placement, amount of wood desired, type of wood and portability. If you do not have the space for a permanent pit, consider something smaller that can easily move around the yard. TIKI® Brand Fire Pits fit the whole family and are easily stored when not in use.  For a lightweight and portable option, try the TIKI® Brand Social Fire Pit. Its compact and chic design is perfect for camping trips, tailgates, or the backyard. For larger gatherings, the TIKI® Brand Reunion Fire Pit seats 8-10 and is perfect for hosting. After deciding on the size of your outdoor fire pit, choose a shape that complements your style. Choosing the right pit shape for your backyard space can feel daunting. After all, you want it to be aesthetically pleasing and provide an enjoyable stress-free atmosphere.  Below is a list of the most common shapes for fire pits and their relative pros and cons: Square or Rectangular Most often used for built-in locations with angles, you also see these styles for propane-embedded tables. While square fire pits or fire tables fit certain landscapes, you often see these as built-in or immobile fire solutions. This can be limiting depending on your ultimate backyard goals. Chimney/Chiminea A great alternative to a wood burning patio fire pit is a chiminea fireplace. Because of the smokestack, these fireplaces are used to create a smokeless fire. The chimney sends smoke up into the air and out above the smokestack, so it does not bother your guests. Fire Bowls and Other Pedestals  Minimalist designs require placing logs on an open area. Fire bowls and other pedestals are easy and inexpensive, but they tend to produce a lot of smoke. Novelty designs usually also fall into this category so they can add some character and flare to your space. Circular Circular fire pits invite social interaction and are typically focal points of backyards. They are the most common style as they can serve a technical purpose. Because of the shape of these pits, they offer lower smoke fires by creating secondary combustion. The TIKI® Brand Patio Smokeless Fire Pit's design creates a smokeless experience.  Looking for a consistent, quick and easy fire? Try TIKI® Brand Wood Packs.  Some parting advice to consider when finalizing your purchase decision: 1. Space Is my outdoor space large enough for a 10-person pit? Do I want something that can be portable? Does the fire pit need to integrate with any other patio or landscaping features? 2. Surface Do you already have, or will you need to create a level, non-combustible base underneath? This is especially important when considering a portable fire pit. 3. Style What colors, design, and materials will look best with your backyard design? 4. Smoke How important is having low smoke? Do I need a fire pit that can create secondary combustion or is a regular wood burning fire pit sufficient?    While there is no wrong answer, hopefully the above tips help you establish the backyard oasis of your dreams.

Fire Pit Maintenance And Safety

Fire Pit Maintenance And Safety

Your backyard fire pit is not only a gathering point and centerpiece for your yard, but also an investment. The goal is to enjoy sitting by the fire more than the work of making and maintaining the fire pit. Here are six simple ways to make it a positive equation. Invest in Durability Heat, dust, ice, snow, and rain are all elements most fire pits will endure daily. They take a beating, and the biggest cost is replacing your fire pit. Today, there are many options made to withstand frequent use. To find weather-resistant stainless steel, look for heat-treated and powder-coated pit options that resist corrosion. Also, choose a company that offers a satisfaction guarantee or warranty for their products. Most businesses provide customer service teams to assist with inquiries and concerns. Remove That Ash A problem with fire pits is the buildup of ash that damages the inside which can hurt its performance. This is a problem for any wood burning fire pit, but there are solutions. To improve the fire pit's lifespan, remove ash from the pit as often as possible. However, it can be a hassle and a mess to do so. Find a removable ash pan, the the ones on TIKI® Brand Fire Pits, to make cleaning easier. Check out this article for more information on how to remove the ash from the TIKI® Brand Smokeless Fire Pits. Keep it Covered (When Not in Use)  Once cooled, cover your fire pit to protect it from rain, sunlight, and other weather conditions when not in use. A weatherproof cloth cover that fits snugly around your pit is the best option for protection. Some fire pits (including TIKI® Brand Pits) have a cover included with initial purchase. Remember to use a cover that provides some ventilation to help reduce condensation and wind lofting.   Prepare for Uneven Ground  Stone or concrete fire pits can sink over time because the ground natrually shifts. Sand leveling helps, but it's inevitable that you'll need to repair or rebuild a DIY fire pit. A fire pit insert or movable fire pit has the advantage of not changing shape over time. This means you won't have to worry about it getting damaged quickly. Having a pit with legs or a pedestal also can be helpful with uneven ground. Feed the Fire  The key to a smokeless fire is to create a hot fire that achieves secondary combustion. To achieve secondary combustion, you need a lot of wood. Some people have wood in their yards that they can cut and dry, but others must buy it. A tip is to use a good fire starter. Products like the TIKI Brand Wood Packs or Fire Starter Packs use soaked wood pellets to achieve a hot fire in minutes. Customers expect a fire to start quickly and that's what the Wood Pack or Starter Packs offer.   Clean Your Pit Regularly You already spend a lot of time cleaning inside your house, so you don't want to worry about cleaning outside too. If you are looking for a low maintenance option, TIKI® Brand offers several to choose from and TIKI® Brand Fire Pits are simple to clean. Just wait until the fire pit cools completely, and then gently wipe it down with soap and water. Watch a simple how-to video here: How to Clean the TIKI Brand Fire Pit (youtube.com). Once the pit is dry, put on the cover and wait until you want to have a fire again. Whichever optoin you choose, we hope these tips help you have a safe and relaxing fire pit experience.

Learn WHAT IS A SMOKELESS FIRE PIT?

What Is a Smokeless Fire Pit?

Nothing is quite like gathering everyone to make memories around the fire. When it's ime to go, you may notice you take more than the memories with you. So how can you enjoy your experience but not leave smelling like a bonfire? That's what smokeless fire pits are for.   How Does a Smokeless Fire Pit Work?  Let's start with a look at why traditional fires smoke in the first place. Smoke results from incomplete combustion. This means there is not enough oxygen to burn the fuel completely. When a traditional fire pit burns, oxygen is only able to reach the fire from the top. While in a smokeless pit air flows throughout, including from the bottom of the fire.  Smokeless fire pits have a vented double wall design that creates both heat and oxygen. The vents pull air in, letting it escape into the walls to keep it burning hot (known as secondary combustion). This allows the wood or wood pellets to burn into ash and take away smoke particles, creating that beautiful smokeless glow. To learn more on how to create the best smokeless flame check out our how to guide.   TIKI® Brand Patented Airflow Technology  TIKI® Brand Smokeless Fire Pits feature a patented airflow system to provide a smoke free experience. So how does it work? First, the air pulls through the stainless-steel grate and bottom vent holes of the pit. Then, the air travels up the double walls of the fire pit and exits through holes under the rim. This pressurized hot air from the double walls burns off the remaining smoke particles. The fire pit's ash pan then keeps any loose ash from coming out.  What makes a TIKI® Brand smokeless pit different?  TIKI® Brand wood burning fire pits feature an innovative tapered engine. The unique design combined with our airflow technology delivers more heat with a higher quality and bigger flame than other pits.      Why Choose a Smokeless Fire Pit?  Besides creating a more comfortable experience around your outdoor fire pit, smokeless pits feature a variety of other benefits.  Cost  Traditional outdoor fire pits and fireplaces can be expensive. They can also require a professional for installation. Smokeless fire pits range in price with many affordable options. Plus, they are available for purchase online or at a local retailer   Portable Traditional backyard fire pits and outdoor fireplaces are often a permanent fixture in your yard. For example, built into your brick or stone foundation. Smokeless pits are freestanding and sit atop your patio. They tend to be lightweight, with some designed for easy mobility. For example, the TIKI® Brand Social Fire Pit.    Design The look of standalone fire pits has come a long way. Your choices used to be a used wagon wheel, clothes dryer tub, or basic metal pedestals. Now, your pit can match your aesthetic with a variety of colors and finishes to choose from. TIKI® Brand fire pits feature a powder coated stainless steel exterior. This design elevates the look of your backyard withour compromising on durability. Consistent Temperature A smokeless fire pit maintains a steady and consistent temperature, whereas a traditional fire's can vary. For example, the fuel used to feed the fire (wood, charcoal, etc.) can influence the temperature.   Instead of being built into the ground, modern fire pits feature higher elevation. This raised design distributes heat more efficiently to those around the pit and makes it easier to control with a poker.  Maintenance Traditional wood burning fire pits leave behind a considerable amount of soot and other residue. Clean-up can require a shovel or other tools to dispose of the ash once the fire has burned out. Smokeless pits produce significantly less ash making them easier and less of a mess to maintain. TIKI® Brand fire pits feature a removable ash pan which makes it even simpler to dispose of ash.      Interested in purchasing a smokeless pit?
